There's a part of me that enjoys this place…

There's another that must eliminate it.

Then… there's the piece of me that wishes for everything to just get over with.

Zim stared blankly before him, standing infront of his base. His home on Earth. The Garden Gnomes were broken due to Dib's recent plot on destroying them before they could destroy him…Zim had yet to even think about fixing them up.

He was on the little path that lead to his front door… but something was stopping him.

Someone.

A peach skinned boy with headphones over his ears and bright red eyes, staring right into Zim's fake purple ones. The human had a red leather vest, with a striped shirt underneath, and thin black jeans with matching black boots.
In a way… he looked familiar.

He had Zim's wig.

"Zim." The boy spoke gently, though… it was in Zim's voice.

This was—

"Who are you." Zim demanded. The alien was never fearful of anything… for some reason this male stirred up his insides, and not in a pleasant grotesque way… it was an annoying and… slightly disturbed way. This boy… this human, sounded just like him.

And in an alternate reality, he could've been him.

"Who am I, indeed." The boy spoke up gently, the same calm tone as before.

Zim stormed forward and shoved the human inside, causing him to stumble back through the suddenly swinging door and fall to the floor. Zim entered right after, closing the door behind him and yelling "Don't mock Zim! You knew who you were dealing with the moment you spoke my name, now WHO ARE YOU?!"

The human snorted, slowly lifting on his elbows, but remaining on the floor "…who am I, Zim?"

Zim's eyes widened, and he shook his head as he stepped closer "Annoying human! I'll kill you!"

"Just like humanity?"

Zim paused "…what?"

The human scoffed "Like humanity. You've been trying to kill humanity and Earth for so many years now. Will you actually kill me? Or can I get away with just a few scratches?"

The green-skinned male was so enraged, and yet he simply formed gloved fists that tightened at his sides. He stood over the human now, glaring down at him with his eyes. Who was he? How did he know?

"Get out!" Zim turned immediately to gesture to the door, but then he realized what was going on.

Zim stood infront of the door, laughing and revealing his jagged teeth. He seemed to yell out "HELLO there Zim~! How's Earth's weather? Pleasant?!"

"No…" Zim stepped back, almost tripping over the human boys leg. He stumbled a bit, turning to glance at the human, watching the light skinned character quickly lift to his feet and dart for the doorway that lead to the kitchen. Zim was now blocked, he couldn't go anywhere else… he was stuck in the living room.

"Who am I, Zim?" The human asked like before, curiously tilting his head, but shoving his gloved hands into his pockets.
"Who are you, Zim?" The alien Zim asked, cackling.

"I-I am Zim!" Zim pointed angrily towards his alien self that blocked the doorway. Then he turned and glared at the human "And Zim has NO IDEA who the Irk YOU are!"

The human pouted, but the other Zim just laughed.

Zim grimaced, holding his head as he shook violently. He was so enraged, yet so scared… why was he so scared?!

"Because you're torn…?" The human asked softly, slowly walking closer towards Zim. Zim took some steps back though, causing the human to stop approaching… but he continued "You're torn between what you must do and what you want to do? You've lived here for so long… that Earth is your home?"

"WHO ARE YOU?!" Zim finally dove for one of the stands beside the couch, a vase falling as the table fell over, and he grabbed it before it hit the ground and tossed it towards the human.

It smashed into the teen boys face, but it seemed to not affect him in any way. The male just smiled at Zim, and he whispered "I'm a lot stronger than you think."

"Zim! You've let this happen! This is all your doing!"  The actual alien that had been blocking the door, and laughing the entire time, was now scowling as his red eyes seemed to set afire. His gloves melted, forming sticky claws, and the black dark substance seemed to stretch and cover his entire being, only leaving his red eyes and bright white fangs to glow in the shadow of himself.

"Zim doesn't understand…" Zim finally breathed out, staring at what appeared to look like a night mare version of himself, then looking over at what was his…human self?

"I've been trying… I've been trying to take the filthy planet in the name of the Tallest! This is for the Almighty! I've done nothing wrong, Zim is just taking awhile—"

"Because now you'll regret it." Both versions of himself hummed in a strange melodious tune.

The human smirked "Dibs threats have turned into a friendly game of tag… you've managed to make human friends. They aren't as disgusting as you thought they were, right?"

"You're now a disgrace to the Irken species…"

"They aren't so bad, right? They hated you before, but they've learned to stand you…"

"If the Tallest ever recognized the lies you were reporting to them every day… they would remove your PAK and let you DIE."

Zim screamed and tore off his wig "Get out of my head… GET OUT OF ZIMS HEAD!!!"

"Who could I be, Zim!?" The human yelled, now tugging off his headphones to reveal the fact that he had no ears.

The shadowed alien laughed, and started to sing in a mocking tone "Who is Zim? Who is Zim? He's surely not an INVADER!"

Zim fell to his knees, his contacts had somehow gotten wet, and the slowly loosened and slipped onto the floor. Now the human and the shadow form were before him, side by side.

Zim's ruby eyes were teary… maybe they were right. Was Zim a failure…?

"…I don't know who I am." Zim said, with a cracked smile.

…he's been broken.

The human's body seemed to turn transparent, and he slowly walked through Zim and headed for the door.

Zim shivered, hugging himself and coughing. His PAK unit seemed to let out a beeping noise, as if it were malfunctioning like a copy-machine.
"What can I do? Who have I become? Who is Zim…?!"

…he's been broken.

The shadow snorted "You're a failure. You deserve to rot in confusion. Are you an Invader? Or are you human? Choose now, or just die."

The shadow slowly kneeled down, and gently wrapped his arms around Zim's shoulders. He chuckled softly.

Zim stared at the floor, wide eyed, his tears had continued to fall, but a wide smile was planted on his face.

…Fix yourself properly next time.

So pathetic.
Just a quick one shot on Zim contemplating whether he is more Human than Invader now... since it's been a few years since he had started the mission.

Zim has gotten comfortable with his stay on Earth... too comfortable, and the guilt was bugging him to the point of breaking his sanity.

And Zim has been broken.

Reminds me of that oneshot I did of Dez, 'Toil'. But in a good way... I love this, Ayame. I love this so much <3. I'm glad you have a great concept of Zim's character. This is really in depth :D
